Vita

Katrin Brause, born and raised in Leipzig on 19 January 1972. She attended the 70th POS in Leipzig from 1978 to 1987. Even as a child, she experienced political pressure, among other things due to her refusal to join the state children's and youth organisations in the GDR.

In 1987, the authorities forced her to drop out of school and she was assigned an apprenticeship as a textile worker in the Leipzig cotton mill (Spinnerei Leipzig). She worked there in a 3-shift system until the beginning of 1990.

After that, she worked in various jobs and was an active member of the children's and youth organisation ‘Villa e.V.’ and the ‘Behinderten- und Seniorenhilfe e.V.’. After the birth of her daughter in 1992, she worked for a restorer in and around Leipzig. Her school education was rehabilitated in 1999 by the Saxon State Ministry of Culture, which awarded her a secondary school leaving certificate. The aptitude test in the same year at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig certified her ‘above-average artistic talent’ and she was able to begin her studies in painting and graphic arts in 2000. Brause studied in Prof. Arno Rink's class from 2002, graduating in 2005. From 2005 to 2008, she completed her postgraduate studies in Fine Art with Prof. Neo Rauch, which she graduated in 2008 with the title of postgraduate diploma (MeisterschülerIn degree).

Katrin Brause lives and works in Leipzig and temporarily in Catania (Sicily).
